Industrial Rust Coating

Steel Seal is a high quality product formulated to provide a hard surface finish and will stop and prevent rust or corrosion. It has proven to resist all type of acids, fuels, salts and even hydrogen sulfide. Steel Seal has successfully been used in the prevention of salt or brine corrosion in the offshore and onshore oilfield industry and is presently being used in all types of applications for salt corrosion.

Rust Information

The reddish-brown crust that often forms on iron and steel objects comes from changes that take place in the outer surface of the metal itself. This crust, called rust, is caused by the mixture of the metal with oxygen from water in the air.

When moisture from the air, or from anywhere else reaches an object with iron in it, oxygen in the water combines with atoms of iron to form molecules of a compound called iron oxide.

The iron oxide particles remain suspended in water, but when the water evaporates, the particles remain, forming a reddish coating on the surface of the iron. Without the presence of water objects cannot rust.

This industrial rust coating can be applied as a stand-alone product or used as a base for other coatings.

It forms a non-permeable watertight seal over metals and will stop rust or corrosion. It is environmentally safe and non hazardous. No protective equipment is needed to apply Steel Seal. It is a water-based product allowing for easy clean up.

Field of Application

Steel Seal can be applied to any rigid metal surface to stop and protect from corrosion. It can be used on storage tanks, bridges, and offshore structures; anywhere rust and corrosion is a problem.

Service Conditions – Steel Seal stays pliable to 10 degrees below and is serviceable to 180 degrees.

Surface Preparation

  • Remove all dirt and loose scale from surface
  • Pressure wash or clean properly before application
  • Allow surface to dry

Application

  • Mix – No mixing necessary
  • Thin – Do not thin
  • Spray – Airless Sprayer – Use 2000 psi with 517 tip
  • Brush – Generously apply with any clean brush
  • Roller – Use a long knap roller
  • After applying first coat STEEL SEAL allow coating to dry (milky when wet clear when dry).
  • After first coating is dry, apply second coating.
  • Apply any decorative paint thereafter second coat is dry.

Notes on Application

  • To clean up use Soap and Water
  • Temperature – Above 45 degrees and rising
  • Storage – Do not store in direct sunlight or allow product to freeze
  • Flash Point – N/A
